The Dutch government intends to purchase emission reductions generated by JI-projects through three tracks: - Emission Reduction Unit Procurement Tender (ERUPT). ERUPT offers companies the possibility to offer emissions reductions generated from their investment project to the Netherlands government. Senter, a government agency, implements the procedure. In 2002, four contracts were awarded. This brings the total value of accepted offers at maximum 9 Mton. - Co-operation with Multilateral Financial Institutions. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs negotiates the purchase of emission reductions with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Worldbank. It is expected that contracts will be signed in 2003. Besides this, the Dutch government continues to participate in the Prototype Carbon Fund. - Co-operation with Private Banks. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs intends to contract private banks to buy emission reductions from their portfolio. Banks will be selected through public procurement. It is expected that a tender will be launched in 2003. This measure is part of Netherlands Climate Policy Plan Part II.
