Funding:April 2014-March 2015: 1.39 billion yen (jointly with the "project for geothermal power generation development")
Description:

This project promotes the development of hydroelectric power plants. The initial investment development costs are high, which results in relatively higher unit generation costs when compared to other power sources. Prior to 1999, METI subsidised construction of small and medium-sized hydroelectric power plants by public electric power operators. Operational activities were transferred to NEDO in 1999.

Amended:

NEDO conducted a subsidy program for further deployment of small and medium-sized hydro power generation and of geothermal power generation from April 1999 to March 2011. Its budget was 1.97 billion yen in the last year. From April 2011, New Energy Promotion Council (NEPC) succeeded this program. NEPC conducts this program by subsidies from METI. This program is still in force in 2015. NEPC also conducts a subsidy program for demonstrative operation of small-sized hydro power generation system.
