Description:

This Initiative is an integrated effort aimed at Reducing Emissions from Fossil Fuel Burning (REFF-Burn).  The Indonesian President has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in 2020 by 26% through domestic efforts and by 41% of with international aid.

The Clean Energy Initiative is intended to not only to meet national emission reduction targets, but also to sustain Indonesia’s national energy security. In this initiative, emissions reduction will be achieved in stages:

  1. Pre- Fossil Combustion: Emissions reduction at this stage is done through preventing the use of more fossil energy.  The strategies include increasing the utilization of renewable energy, energy efficiency improvement and fugitive emission reduction.
  2. During Fossil Combustion: Reducing emissions during fossil energy combustion is achieved through measures such as the use of clean coal technology, clean fuel technology, utilization of flared gas reduction and application of energy efficient technologies in the household, commercial, transportation and industrial sector.
