The major part of these improvements refers to the broader Athens area. (b) Reconstruction of the major highway arteries. (c) Improvements in the traffic light system. (d) Improvements in the Athens suburban railway network. This measure includes the improvement of railway stations, the provision of vehicles, the renewal of traffic lights and the development of park-and-ride stations. . (e) Reconstruction of the national railway network. The completion of these projects will imply a significant decrease of transportation distance and it is expected that this will lead to a decrease of fossil fuel consumption.
