The federal government adopted an integrated energy and climate programme in August 2007 consiting of 29 separate measures in the field of energy and climate. Its targets include reducing Germany's greenhouse gas emissions by 40% compared with 1990 as well as an increase in the proportion of electricity generation accounted for by renewables to at least 30% by 2020.
