Climate Change Description:

In order to provide as accurate and useful information as possible, Finland concentrates its reporting efforts on the most essential and concrete policies and measures. Although this PAM serves / has served an important purpose, it is not considered one of them. Therefore the status of this PAM has been marked as “unknown”, and the description has not been updated. However, this PAM may still be in force and bring significant emissions reductions.

In October 2009, the Finnish government adopted the Foresight Report on Long-term Climate and Energy Policy to supplement the longer term ambitions of the Long-term Climate and Energy Strategy. The result of two years of cross-disciplinary investigations and broad consultation with stakeholders and citizens, the Foresight Report reviewed ambition for sustainable development with a global perspective and outlined possible paths to a low-carbon Finland in 2050. It sets a target for Finland to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% from the 1990 level by 2050, as part of a wider international effort. In practice, the achievement of emission reductions in Finland requires virtually zero-emission energy and road transport sectors in the long term, along with measures to reduce energy use in buildings sector and across the economy.
