Starting in 2010, a voluntary energy label for new passenger cars offers customers information about the level of energy efficiency and CO2 emissions of new cars. The energy label groups cars into seven different categories according to their CO2 emissions, and helps customers choose less-polluting and more efficient vehicles. It also sends a message to the vehicle retailer, manufacturer and electricity producer on the importance of energy efficiency and the environment.
