Description:The Wood Energy Technology Programmes target is to create the economic conditions to increase annual use of forest chips fivefold, i.e. to 2.5 million cubic metres by 2003. The energy produced from forest chips would amount to about 5 TWh, i.e. close to 0.5 Mtoe. A parallel target is to improve the quality of wood fuels. The total budget for the years 1999 -2003 is expected to be € 42 million (FIM 250 million), of which Tekes finances about € 8.4 million (FIM 50 million). The programme is composed of two types of projects. The research institute projects meet common and general needs. Private company projects serve special needs of a company; the data and experience gained are not necessarily made public. The programme is co-ordinated by VTT Energy.
