Description:The EU-China Partnership on Climate Change frames cooperation on climate change and energy, focusing on the development of low carbon technologies. Among the Parternships goals for 2020: • Significantly reduce the cost of key energy technologies and promote their distribution and operation. • Promote clean energy sources, energy efficiency, energy conservation and renewable energy. • Develop and demonstrate in China and the EU advanced near-zero emission coal technology through carbon capture and storage. • Support the EU and Chinese efforts to reduce the energy intensity of their economies. While China aims to halve its energy intensity by 2020, the European Union proposes to reduce its energy consumption by 20% over the same period. The partnership complements the EUs implementation of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Kyoto Protocol and provides momentum for discussions of a multilateral climate change regime to follow the Kyoto Protocols first round.
