EU Directive 2003/66/EC extends the A to G labelling scheme for electric refrigerators, freezers and their combinations from 2004 to reflect improvements in energy efficiency achieved by manufacturers. From 2004, the best-performing fridges and freezers will carry labels showing efficiency to be A+ or A++. The Member States will have until the end of 2004 to comply with the new labelling obligations. The original scale was launched in 1994.
