Description:The law promoting green energy consumption entered into force in 2000. All renewable electricity has priority access to the grid ("priority production"). Under the new electricity legislation, the share of electricity generated from renewables sources (principally wind turbines) was expected to rise to 20% by the end of 2003. In order to promote the use of renewable energy, subsidies are available for installations of solar heating, biomass-fuelled burners and heat pumps. Market mechanisms are to be introduced for trade in renewable energy. This renewable energy market was developed in stages with a view to the market functioning fully in 2003.
