Description:

The IFC/GEF Efficient Lighting Initiative (ELI) was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and designed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and by local counterparts in the Czech Republic (and five other participating countries), which seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by accelerating the penetration of energy-efficient lighting technologies in emerging markets. In the Czech Republic, ELI catalysed the installation of energy-efficient lighting, primarily in the public sector, with special emphasis on street lighting. It also strengthened the capabilities of lighting businesses, particularly in the area of project financing. ELI also promoted compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) for the use in residential sector.
