Funding:USD 85.8 million
Description:

The 2013 Budget Law approved a budget of USD 85.5 million for the Ministry of Energy for "Support for Non-Conventional Renewable Energy Development Programme" for subsidising pilot projects based on non-conventional renewable energy (NCRE) such as Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants, transmission lines for NCRE projects, geothermal exploration projects, tide energy projects and other NCRE.

As of early 2013, several public contests are being subsidised under this fund, among which:

  1. A public contest called “Innovación en Energías Renovables” (Innovation in Renewable Energies) was launched in December 2012, to encourage the development of pilot projects for energy self-sufficiency using renewables energies through the ESCO model (Energy Service Company). It has USD 5 million for subsidies. Applications closed on April 19th 2013. More information is available at: www.minenegia.cl and www.corfo.cl/programas-y-concursos/programas/concurso-de-innovacion-en-energias-renovables.
  2. The Concentrated Solar Power plants contest was launched in February 2013 and the nominations are open until 22 October 2013. Its aim is the implementation and operation of CSP plants to generate electricity. A USD 20 million for co-financing is available. More details are available at www.minenegia.cl and www.corfo.cl/programas-y-concursos/programas/concurso-planta-de-concentracion-solar-de-potencia-csp.
  3. There is also a contest with USD 12.8 million subsidy to implement an Excellence Centre for Solar Energy for R&D, with the objective of achieving significant technological development and building the necessary related human capacities in Chile. This programme could be considered as the continuation of the Invest Chile Project.
