Climate Change Description:As part of the Government of Canadas action plan targeting industrial greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, the Credit for Early Action Programme was established in March 2008 to recognise facilities that took verified early action to reduce greenhouse gases between 1992 and 2006. The program was launched in June 2008. Phase I ended in fall 2008. During the federal election in October 2008, programme activity was suspended. Following the election, the economic downturn and the renewed engagement by the new U.S. Administration have required the Government of Canada to fine-tune its approach to tackling climate change. The Credit for Early Action Program is currently under review.
