Energy Efficiency Description:

As of 2007, the commercial highway freight sector was responsible for close to 10% of Canadas greenhouse gas emissions. ecoENERGY for Fleets, a programme offered by Natural Resources Canada, introduces fleets to energy efficient practices that can reduce fuel consumption and emissions. FleetSmart is a component of this programme offering free practical advice on how energy efficient vehicles and business practices can reduce fleet operating costs, improve productivity and increase competitiveness. Along with the latest developments in fleet and fuel management, ecoENERGY for Fleets also helps to ensure fleet vehicle owners and managers are aware of the fuel efficiency benefits of new and developing technologies. On the education side of the initiative, it is expected that more than 200,000 professional drivers - of heavy trucks, buses, construction and other vehicles - will receive training in energy efficient vehicle operating techniques over the four years of the programme.
