Energy Efficiency Description:

The Federal Vehicles Initiative (FVI) is a government leadership initiative that targets federal vehicle fleets to reduce energy use and promote the use of alternative transportation fuels. The objectives of the initiative are to: improve the operational efficiency of fleets; reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fleets; and accelerate the use of alternative transportation fuels. The initiative provides fleet managers with an assessment of fleets at little or no cost and technical advice on using alternative transportation fuels (ATFs) and acquiring alternative fuel vehicles. In addition, it campaigns to encourage vehicle operators to select alternative fuels. Four departments, namely Treasury Board, NRCan, Environment Canada, and Public Works and Government Services Canada plan and report on the initiative. NRCan is responsible for implementation.
