In 2002, the Commonwealth government, several state governments, and the building and design industries jointly developed and published Australias most comprehensive guide to environmentally sustainable housing, Your Home. The Your Home suite of materials included a Consumer Guide to raise awareness and a Technical Manual for building professionals and interested owner builders. The Your Home Technical Manual became a principal reference guide for building industry education and training programmes and was used in tertiary education for architecture, environment design, and building courses. The auxiliary efforts of state and territory governments included the production of booklets, journals, books, web sites, demonstration projects and training programmes. Some local governments were active in producing publications aimed at increasing public awareness of low-energy housing. "Your Development" and "Your Building" are web portals that provide information on sustainabl e solutions for urban and commercial building development. The Your Development web portal also provides an information base for urban development practioners to incorporate sustainable solutions into the planning, design and construction of new residential developments. The Technical Manual contains over 60 individual fact sheets full of environmentally sustainable solutions for designing and building a home. The fact sheets are designed to be used by a wide range of people at different building skill levels and focus on issues such as construction systems. Each fact sheet looks at the history, for instance behind each construction system and contains information on everything from its structural and insulation properties, to its general durability and environmental impacts.
