Description:Australias federal government announced in September 2000 that it will fund a study into the commercial viability of increasing ethanol fuel production by the sugar industry. This study, estimated to cost AUD 20,000, will be co-ordinated by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE). This initiative builds on an existing commitment of AUD 2 million for a ligno-cellulosic ethanol pilot plant.
