OPEC Secretary-General visits IEA for meeting on oil market outlook
22 April 2016
IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol welcomed the Secretary-General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, H.E. Abdallah Salem El-Badri, to the IEA Headquarters in Paris on 22 April 2016. The two organisation heads met to share views on the oil market outlook and to discuss the productive co-operation between the IEA and OPEC, especially in data, statistics and market outlooks.
Following the meeting at the IEA, the Indonesian Ambassador to France, H.E. Hotmangaraja Panjaitan, hosted a lunch in honor of Secretary-General El-Badri (sixth from left in photo) that was attended by Dr. Birol (fifth from left) and IEA Director of Energy Markets and Security Keisuke Sadamori as well as OECD Ambassadors from Australia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom.
Indonesia became one of the first countries to join the IEA Association initiative during the 2015 IEA Ministerial meeting, building on its strong bilateral partnership with the Agency over recent years. Indonesia – a net oil importer – is also a member of OPEC, having resumed its membership of the group in late 2015.
Topics of discussion at the lunch ranged from oil markets and climate change to the energy situation in Indonesia.
