IEA Executive Director meets with Norwegian Prime Minister

IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol was in Oslo on 23 November 2015 for talks with government leaders and to give a keynote speech at Statoil's Autumn Conference.
His first meeting was a bilateral with Prime Minister Erna Solberg of Norway. They focused on plans to modernise the IEA. Other topics included the outlook for energy markets and prospects for the upcoming COP21 climate talks. Dr. Birol then made a presentation to an audience of 750 at the Autumn Conference – marking his 10th year of participation at the event – before joining a panel discussion alongside Tord Lien, the Minister for Petroleum and Energy of Norway; Eldar Sætre, the President and CEO of Statoil; and Anita Marangoly George, Senior Director of the World Bank.
In the afternoon, Dr. Birol had a meeting with Minister Lien that focused on outcomes from the recent IEA Ministerial. This was followed by a bilateral meeting with Børge Brende, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Elin ØstebøJohansen, Norway's Ambassador to the OECD, accompanied Dr. Birol on the visit.
