During Mexico visit, IEA Chief Economist holds bilateral meeting with Energy Secretary

IEA Chief Economist Fatih Birol completed a visit to Mexico, where he held a bilateral meeting with Energy Secretary Pedro Joaquín Coldwell and other senior officials to discuss Mexico’s energy sector reforms and their implementation. Following the meeting, Dr. Birol presented the World Energy Outlook 2014 to key representatives of government and industry at an event opened by the Secretary of Energy. He also met with the CEO of Pemex, Emilio Lozoya Austin, to discuss the company’s ongoing transformation.

During the one-day mission on 28 April, the Japanese Ambassador to Mexico was host for a lunch where the Chief Economist, accompanied by representatives from the IEA Office of Global Energy Policy, spoke about the international energy landscape and Mexico’s energy sector reforms. In attendance were the Ambassadors of Canada, Germany, Italy, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
