Ethiopian Power Minister accompanies statisticians visiting the IEA for training

9 December 2014

Wondimu Tekele, the Ethiopian State Minister for Water and Energy, personally accompanied 10 statisticians from his country to the start of their two-day training course at the IEA.

Along with the Deputy Director-General of the Ethiopian Central Statistical Agency, Amare Legesse, the Ethiopian statisticians received instruction on IEA methods and tools for developing and maintaining complete and accurate energy datasets and national energy balances.

After welcoming remarks by Chief Economist Fatih Birol (left in photo) and then Energy Data Centre Head Jean-Yves Garnier as well as Minister Tekele (right in photo) on 9 December, the participants learned about collecting and assessing energy information from IEA experts and then engaged in practical exercises.

As part of its extensive global engagement efforts, the IEA provides training to statisticans from around the world as part of its capacity-building activities to spread best practices in energy policy and energy statistics.
