IEA’s Chief Economist awarded Italy’s highest ranking honour

The International Energy Agency’s Chief Economist, Dr Fatih Birol, has been named Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic; the highest ranking honour of the Italian Republic.
The award was presented to Dr. Birol by Mr. Carlo Maria Oliva, the Italian Ambassador to the OECD and Ambassador Giandomenico Magliano, Italian representative to the IEA Governing Board, on behalf of President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano.
Dr Birol received the award in Paris on 13June for his outstanding contribution to improving the understanding of the global energy issues. Also present were IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven, IEA Deputy Executive Director Richard H. Jones plus several OECD Ambassadors and IEA Governing Board representatives as well as the Turkish Ambassador to France.
