St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2010
19 June 2010
Ambassador Richard H. Jones, Deputy Executive Director of the IEA, participated in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2010 on 17-19 June. He spoke on the panel discussion, “Global Energy & the Future of the Gas Market” alongside Russian Federation Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin.
Ambassador Jones highlighted the IEA’s medium-term outlook for gas markets. He also stressed energy efficiency, ending flaring and allowing third-party access to the main gas trunk line – especially as Gazprom delays investments given the downturn in gas demand in Europe due to the economic crisis. Ambassador Jones also met with Minister of Energy Sergey Shmatko to discuss IEA-Russia implementation of the Joint Statement agreed at the IEA Ministerial meeting in October 2009.
