UN Focuses on Energy for Development

On 28 April, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will convene a high-level UN event on “Energy for Development” where IEA Chief Economist Fatih Birol will be one of the keynote speakers.
The event will focus on the transition to a new energy pathway and opportunities and challenges that energy holds for the achievement of the Millennieum Development Goals. A special early excerpt of the World Energy Outlook 2010 on the requirements for tackling energy poverty in the least-developed countries will be released on the occasion of the Millennium Development Goal Summit in New York on 20-22 September 2010.
