India joins IEA international collaborative programmes. On 22 January 2007, India joined two IEA Implementing Agreement energy technology R&D programmes. The signing took place in New Delhi on 22 January in the presence of R.V. Shahi, Secretary, India's Ministry of Power, and Claude Mandil, IEA's Executive Director. Mr. T. Sankaralingam, Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, India's largest thermal electricity producer, signed the IEA Greenhouse Gas R&D Programme that deals with reducing greehouse gas emmissions from fossil fuel use. Dr. Ajay Mathur, Director-General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, signed the IEA DSM Programme dealing with demand-side management of electricity use.
