Global CHP/DHC Data - Current Baseline
Data on existing global CHP capacity was collected from a variety of sources, including Eurostat for EU data, the U.S. Department of Energy for U.S. data, and the Japan Gas Association and Japanese Ministry of Energy Technology and Industry (METI) for Japan, among several other sources. Not all countries surveyed by IEA are included.

The figure on the right presents the CHP generation as a share of total electricity
for the G8+5 countries. For some of these countries specific data are available
for:
- District heating CHP – number of plants, capacity and heat and electricity generation;
- CHP by fuel type – energy input, heat and electricity generation;
- CHP in industry by sector – installed capacity, heat and electricity generation;
- CHP by prime mover technology – number of plants, capacity and heat and electricity generation.
