Background:
|
Russia has substantial and diverse renewable energy resources - wind, geothermal, hydro, biomass and solar. Nearly all of the regions have at least one or two forms of renewable energy that are commercially exploitable. Moreover, these resources, if exploited effectively and efficiently, could do much to reduce reliance on gas.
Currently in Russia there is significant "low-hanging fruit" - applications where renewable energy sources have a competitive advantage over conventional energy sources. The IEA believes that there is much room for increasing the share of renewable energy in Russia’s overall energy mix and is interested in sharing IEA expertise on innovative and efficient policies aimed at increasing the share.
The IEA just released Deploying Renewables: Principles for Effective Policies. It reflects IEA expertise on ways to support the uptake and market deployment of renewable energy.
