Background:
|
The International CCS Regulators Network held its second web seminar on 9 October, from 15h00 to 16h30 Paris time (GMT + 2).
Co-organised with UCL’s Carbon Capture Legal Programme, this seminar examined the legal frameworks and regulations governing some of the first CCS demonstration projects worldwide. To date, much discussion has focused on the technical lessons to be learned from the development of these early projects, but there has been little consideration of the legal systems that facilitated their approval and regulation. In particular, this web-based seminar explored:
- Assessment of jurisdiction between various government authorities;
- Details of relevant laws, including any legislative challenges requiring amendments;
- Permitting processes involved in approving early demonstration projects; and
- Learning from these early legal frameworks to develop more comprehensive regimes for the next phase of demonstration programmes.
