Location and date(s) of workshop:
IEA, Paris: 2 April 2008

Organiser(s): 53rd Meeting of the Renewable Energy Working Party Technology and Policy Seminar

Contact(s):

Background:

According to IEA scenarios, renewables will play a major role in the needed transition towards a more sustainable future world energy system.

How can the sustainability benefits of renewables be assessed and quantified? Are there any sustainability issues related to the mass-scale deployment of renewables? The workshop aims to provide transparent, balanced and evidence-based answers to these questions, with perspectives from research, industry and policy-making stakeholders.

The second session of the workshop will be dedicated to a case study on bioenergy and biofuels, for which the current initiatives on sustainability criteria and the related policy implications will be presented and discussed.
