3rd G8 Workshop on Early Opportunities for Carbon Capture and Storage

Location and date(s) of workshop:
Calgary, Canada: 27-28 November 2007

Organiser(s): G8 / IEA / Natural Resources Canada / Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum

Background:

In 2005 the G8 issued its Gleneagles Plan of Action on Climate Change and Sustainable development stated that:

We will work to accelerate the deployment and commercialization of Carbon Capture and Storage technology by:

. . . Inviting the International Energy Agency to work with the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum to hold a workshop on short term opportunities for carbon capture and storage, including from Enhanced Oil Recovery and removal of CO2 from natural gas production.

Because of the extensive scope of CO2 capture and storage, three workshops have been scheduled, the first was in San Francisco (August 2006) and identified the major issues, the second in Oslo (June 2007) provided assessments of the issues and the third in Calgary (November 2007) will develop the recommendations to the G8 leaders.

Natural Resources Canada is pleased to facilitate this workshop in Calgary, which will provide the final recommendations to implement the near-term opportunities for capture and storage. This workshop will be attended by technical, policy and financial experts from around the world.
