| Description | The Australian Solar Institute (ASI) is a component of the Australian Government's Clean Energy Initiative. The Government is providing AUD 150 million to the ASI, which is funding solar research and development (R&D), as well as fostering greater collaboration between researchers in universities, research institutions, and industry and forging strong links with peak overseas research organisations. Round 1 and Round 2 of the ASI solar R&D funding program have now been completed. As of January 2011, 27 projects have been funded by the ASI, including three Foundation Projects. The total funding commitment for the 27 projects is AUD 66.1 million, with a total leveraged value of around AUD 209 million. The Government has also announced that the ASI will receive up to AUD 50 million to support joint solar research projects with the United States. Funding will help build on expertise and cooperation between Australian and US researchers. |
