Description	The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) was conceived at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in August 2002. It is a global public-private partnership that structures policy and regulatory initiatives for clean energy, and facilitates financing for energy projects. REEEP is backed by national governments, businesses, development banks and NGOs. It is an Austrian legal entity with the status of an International NGO. The International Secretariat is based in Vienna, within the offices of the United Nations Industrial Development Programme (UNIDO). The partnership is funded by a number of governments including: Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, The United Kingdom, The United States and the European Commission. REEEP's regional secretariats provide access to best practice in policy and finance to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. Its International Secretariat engages political, financial and business support to reduce the risk inherent in implementing new policy and financing initiatives. The partnership promotes investment opportunities, supports business and institutional models, bundles small projects to a bankable size, links to carbon finance and replicates successful financing mechanisms. It aims to ensure that policies and regulatory structures encourage the integration of clean energy, promote the efficient use of power and attract investment into the sector. REEEP conducts regular programme funding cycles, focusing on projects which can be replicated and scaled-up, and have an impact on the development of the market for renewable and efficient energy and innovation. The partnership has over a hundred projects in its portfolio, designed to help remove market barriers to clean energy in more than forty countries, primarily in the developing world.
