Description The 14-year ecoENERGY for Renewable Power programme will invest roughly CAD1.5 billion to increase Canada's supply of clean electricity from renewable sources such as wind, biomass, low-impact hydro, geothermal, solar photovoltaic and ocean energy (wave and tidal). The objective of the ecoENERGY for Renewable Power programme is to help position low-impact renewable energy industries to make an increased contribution to Canada's energy supply, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and diversified energy future.

The programme will provide a production incentive of CDN 1 cent per kilowatt-hour for up to 10 years for electricity generated from eligible renewable energy projects commissioned between April 1, 2007 and March 31, 2011, inclusive.

The programme will encourage the production of 14.3 terawatt-hours of new electricity from renewable energy sources, enough electricity to power approximately one million homes. Potential eligible recipients will include: independent power producers, public and private electric utilities, independent power producers and cooperatives.
