| Description | According to the Alternative Fuels Act, government vehicles are required to use alternative fuels where cost effective and operationally feasible. To assist fleet managers, Natural Resources Canada's Fleet Wise programme provides information and tools aimed at reducing emissions, while at the same time increasing the operational efficiency in the federal fleet and cutting costs. The Government of Canada and the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association (CRFA) launched a campaign in April 1999 to remind drivers to use ethanol blended fuels, a practice which can reduce CO 2 emissions by up to 10 percent and CO emissions by up to 30 percent. Stickers placed on the dashboard and near the fuel tank of more than 6,000 federal fleet vehicles remind drivers of government vehicles to choose ethanol-blended fuels. Additionally, CRFA has provided a directory of retail locations of the approximately 1,000 filling stations in Canada that dispense these fuels. |
