Mongolia is a resource-rich and strategically located country, with abundant resources of coal as well as wind and solar potential. Renewable energies are currently being developed. Despite its high energy potential, Mongolia still faces many challenges and needs international cooperation to develop in a sustainable way.
As an initial step of establishing working relations, the IEA attended a workshop on “Northeast Asia energy connectivity” hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ulaanbaatar in March 2015. Energy experts from Mongolia also attended IEA events along with other non-member countries in 2015.
