The ten countries of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) constitute the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). A population approaching 600 million and GDP growths of 5+%pa translates into high energy and oil intensity and a fast growing presence in the oil and investment markets. The ten countries of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) constitute the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). A population approaching 600 million and GDP growths of 5+%pa translates into high energy and oil intensity and a fast growing presence in the oil and investment markets. South East Asian Governments are working both nationally and regionally to establish policy, programs, and regulatory frameworks for more secure, transparent, and efficient energy sectors. This is not a straightforward process. Where it can add value, the IEA seeks to bring its 30 years experience and best practice to its work with ASEAN countries and their lead energy organisations, such as the ASEAN Centre for Energy and the ASEAN Council on Petroleum.
