Global CHP/DHC Benefits

In addition to establishing potential for CHP, the IEA CHP / DHC Collaborative estimated the benefits that would be delivered by achieving the CHP potentials in the G8+5, focusing on the cost savings, CO2 emissions reductions, and fuel use savings.

The benefits analysis compared two scenarios: the Accelerated CHP Scenario, achieving the potentials described above, and the IEA World Energy Outlook 2007 Alternative Policy Scenario (APS). These two scenarios were modelled, taking into account expected electricity demand growth, closure of existing power plants, the technologies used for power generation, and characteristics of the electricity sector, such as costs and network losses. For more details about the methodology used to assess the benefits of CHP, please contact the CHP/DHC Collaborative contact.

The outputs of the benefits assessment were:

Capital Investment Costs
Delivered Electricity Costs
CO2 Emissions and Fuel Consumption
